Total cell lysates (15 µg protein) from mouse brain, NTERA-2, Jurkat and HEL were resolved by 4-12% Bis-tris gel electrophoresis, transferred to nitrocellulose, and probed with anti-DNMT1 Antibody (clone W15077A) (upper). Proteins were visualized using a goat anti-mouse IgG secondary antibody conjugated to HRP and chemiluminescence detection. α-Tubulin (lower) was used as a loading control.

Description

DNA (Cytisube-5-)-Methyltransferase 1 (DNMT-1), is an enzyme that has a role in the establishment and regulation of tissue-specific patterns of  methylated cytosine residues. This enzyme associates with DNA replication sites in the S phase and methylates CpG residues to maintain the methylation pattern in the newly synthesized strand, that is essential for epigenetic inheritance. In addition to this, it associates with DNA during the G2 and M phases to maintain DNA methylation. Diseases associated with abnormal DNMT-1 function include certain human tumors and developmental abnormalities. There are two transcript encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
