Lymphotoxin-beta Receptor Pathway

Lymphotoxin-β receptors (LTβRs) are receptors expressed on many different cell types and can bind ligands such as LIGHT homotrimers and LTα1β2 expressed by hematopoietic stem cells. When engaged by LTα1β2, LTβR initiates signaling through TRAFs, activating NIK to ultimately cause NF-κB-driven gene expression. This pathway is important for formation of lymphoid structures such as germinal centers and Peyer's patches. LTβR can also be engaged by LIGHT, which activates caspase pathways to cause apoptosis.
