MDSC-induced Immune Suppression

Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) consist of immature myeloid cells that exhibit immunosuppressive capabilities. As such, they are often recruited to tumor sites to prevent an immunological response from clearing cancerous cells. While MDSCs are known for their continuous production of proinflammatory IL-1, IL-6, ROS, and RNOS, they are also known to prevent antigen presenting cell maturation and T cell activation.
