Western blot of purified anti-Ankyrin-R antibody (clone N388A/10). Lane 1: Molecular weight marker; Lane 2: 20 µg of mouse brain lysate; Lane 3: 20 µg of rat brain lysate. The blot was incubated with 10 µg/mL of the primary antibody overnight at 4°C, followed by incubation with HRP-labeled goat anti-mouse IgG (Cat. No. 405306). Enhanced chemiluminescence was used as the detection system.

Description

Ankyrin-R is an anchor protein whose main role in vivo is to anchor integral membrane protein/complexes to the cytoskeleton. It was originally discovered in erythrocytes, but later to be found expressed in the brain. The gene encoding Ankyrin-R, ANK1, has a highly complex regulatory mechanism, which gives rise to a variety of different isoforms of Ankyrin-R. Recent studies in Alzheimer’s Disease have shown that epigenetic dysregulation of ANK1, in combination of several other proteins including Trem-2, could be a contributing factor of increased TNFA expression and neuroinflammation1.
