N227slash21_HRP_MECP2_Antibody_1_062218
IHC staining of HRP anti-MECP2 antibody (clone N227/21) on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded mouse hippocampus tissue. Following antigen retrieval using Sodium Citrate H.I.E.R., the tissue was incubated with 1 µg/ml of the primary antibody overnight at 4°C. DAB was used for detection followed by hematoxylin counterstaining, according to the protocol provided. The image was captured with a 10X objective. Scale bar: 100 µm

Description

Methyl CpG binding protein (MECP2), also known as autism susceptibility to X-linked 2 (AUTSX3), is a nuclear protein crucial for normal neuronal function that binds to methylated DNA, forming complexes with histone deacteylases and turning off gene expression.  MECP2 expression is an X-linked trait. Loss of MECP2 expression causes Rett Syndrome (also known as RTS, RTT, or RS) a neurological disorder which causes decelerated growth of hands, feet, and the head.
