Incorporating intracellular staining into your flow cytometry assays allows you to study cell signaling pathways, detect unique subpopulations of cells, or identify the cell cycle and apoptosis status of your cells. Because you can use intracellular antibodies in combination with surface markers, you can study these cytoplasmic and nuclear events within specific cells in a heterogeneous population. We offer intracellular flow cytometry antibodies for cytokines, phosphorylated proteins, and transcription factors.

Transcription factors bind to DNA and regulate gene expression, and are often considered master regulators of cell development and differentiation. As such, they are commonly used to identify particular subsets of broader cell types. For example, transcription factors are commonly used to help delineate specific T helper subsets, including T-bet in Th1 cells.
