Chemokine Receptor Biology

Chemokines are small secreted cytokines that act on chemokine receptors expressed on cells, inducing a chemotactic response, typically towards higher concentrations of the chemokine. During inflammation, chemokines secreted from the site of injury will attract neutrophils and other immune cells. Chemokines are also involved in the homeostatic localization of immune cells in the bone marrow and secondary lymphoid tissue. The families of chemokine receptors include CCR, CXCR, CX3CR, and XCR, as well as several orphan receptors.
