Description:
Unlike other POZ/BTB family proteins, Nac1 lacks obvious DNA-binding domains in either of its two isoforms and acts as a transcriptional repressor. NAC1 is widely expressed in both neuronal and non-neuronal tissues. NAC1 protein is expressed at high levels in the brain and it plays an important role in behavioral sensitization, the histone deacetylase (HDAC) complex, and also interacts with other family members.
Other Names:
BTB(POZ) domain containing 14B
Structure:
NAC1 is a POZ/BTB motif containing transcriptional repressor protein and contains a conserved motif near the amino terminus that mediates protein–protein interactions like other POZ/BTB family proteins.
Distribution:
Nuclear, translocation to cytoplasm is activation dependent.
Function:
Mainly regulated by the Hedgehog pathway
Interaction:
BCL6 and CoREST.
