Unlike other POZ/BTB family proteins, Nac1 lacks obvious DNA-binding domains in either of its two isoforms and acts as a transcriptional repressor. NAC1 is widely expressed in both neuronal and non-neuronal tissues. NAC1 protein is expressed at high levels in the brain and it plays an important role in behavioral sensitization, the histone deacetylase (HDAC) complex, and also interacts with other family members. |
