Each lot of this antibody is quality control tested by immunofluorescent staining with flow cytometric analysis. For immunofluorescent staining, the suggested use of this reagent is ≤2.0 µg per million cells in 100 µl volume. It is recommended that the reagent be titrated for optimal performance for each application.

Human peripheral blood platelets stained with purified AK-7, followed by anti-mouse IgGs FITC
CD49b is a 170 kD transmembrane protein, also known as α2 integrin, VLA-2 α chain, Integrin α2 or GPIa. It associates with CD29 (β1 integrin) to form VLA-2, a collagen and alminin receptor on many cell types including monocytes, platelets, activated T cells, megakaryocytes, neuronal cells, epithelial cells, and osteoclasts. CD49b has been reported to interact with F-actin and matrix metalloproteinase 1. CD49b is a platelet alloantigen and has been associated with neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia. Deficiencies in this protein have been associated with hemorrhagic disorders.
Other Names:
α2 integrin, VLA-2 α chain, Integrin α2 chain
Structure:
Integrin alpha chain family, Type I membrane protein, alpha chain of heterodimeric integrin receptor, 170 kD. Associates with CD29 to form collagen, laminin receptor
Distribution:
Broadly expressed on many cell types including B cells, monocytes, platelets, megakaryocytes, neuronal cells, epithelial cells, osteoclasts
Function:
With CD29 binds collagen and laminin
Ligand Receptor:
With integrin ß1 (CD29) forms receptor for laminin and collagen
