Description: CD34 is thought to function as an adhesion molecule for early hematopoietic progenitors mediating the attachment of stem cells to extracellular matrix or stromal mucosialin. It is selectively expressed on majority of hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells, bone marrow stromal cells, capillary endothelial cells, and embryonic fibroblasts. CD34+ hematopoietic progenitors may be mobilized to the peripheral blood by treatment with recombinant canine granulocyte colony-stimulating factor and stem-cell factor. Furthermore, CD34 is expressed on some canine leukemias.
Other Names: mucosialin
Structure: About 110 kD glycoprotein on the cell surface of bone marrow-derived progenitors of hematopoietic and epithelial cells.
Distribution: It is expressed on hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells, stromal cells, endothelial cells, fibroblasts.
Ligand Receptor: L-selectin and E-selectin
